Easy to Sew Projects - Five to Try
Looking for some easy to sew projects? Have you always wanted to quilt, but are letting your sewing machine scare you? Or perhaps you haven't sewn in a long time and are leery about tackling a big project. Here are five projects that are quick, practical and will allow you to gain experience with your machine.
Pillowcases
I never thought that pillowcases would be popular until I gave them out as Christmas presents to my nieces and nephews one year. Can you say "hit"? They are easy to sew and easily customizable. Plus, if you do not know anyone who would be interested in pillowcases, you could always donate them.
Skirt
Any skirt pattern will do. If you get a basic pattern it will only have two pieces. This means there is only a small investment in fabric and notions. Plus, you are working with a straight line stitch - the same you would while quilting. The goal is to produce something practical while working with your sewing machine. Buy fabric in a neutral color and you have just expanded your wardrobe.
Purse
Purses are great gifts. With the right pattern, they are easy to make and you get to learn a variety of techniques depending on the pattern before you get too scared to try them later.
Wallet
My favorite pattern in the world is the Wonder Wallet pattern from Lazy Girl Designs. Using this design you can get used to using your walking foot. They go great if you are sewing assembly line style. You can make two wallets out of each fat quarter. Fabric wallets, also you make great gift card holders. Instant sewing gratification.
Coasters
Great gifts for the office crowd. Quick. Can be personalized. Useful. What's not to like about coasters? They use scraps. So, give these five small projects a try. Before you know it, you will have the confidence to tackle a baby quilt and then nothing will stop you!
